  8. back from a cafe study date with Teresa of Avila. thinking of the couple at the next table learning english. delighting in words.
  9. just can't sit still. this is no good. these books aren't gonna read themselves...
  10. these October nights are actually kind of spooky. thinking of the legend of sleepy hollow and other classic tales.
  11. fell and skinned my knee today while rushing to class. as I peeled myself off the ground, I smiled a little and was reminded of childhood.
  12. finally watched The Jazz Singer (1927) after reading about it in The Dialect of Modernism. It's an interesting film for this time of year.
  13. making time for daydreaming.
  14. ten days later, my farmer's market zinnias are still going strong. also, concord grapes are my new favorite thing.
  15. trying not to feel swamped. failing a little. those new books look pretty on my shelf, but fitting them all into my brain at once is tough.
  16. reading The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston.
  17. found Robert Alter at Raven books for 12.95! well, not the man himself, unfortunately, but his Five Books of Moses, at least.

  19. lazy sunday discovery: a shiny black vintage typewriter, just down the street in a lovely little shop.
  20. in search of raincoat. and cozy socks. brrr...
