Sorry for the long silence - been settling back into UK life while Huw recovers, pondering our next steps.

@riette2roos In clinics/hospitals for a month in Liberia, Ghana then the UK - now out and about, kidneys working well.

@petegost It's a (v rare) complication of malaria falciparum, often triggered by quinine, so only way to avoid it is to avoid malaria!

@riette2roos Pretty serious at the time (acute renal failure) but recovering brilliantly. Banned from adventure for at least six months tho!

Doc confirmed this week that Huw definitely had blackwater fever. We thought it must be but good to know for sure.
