  1. @tommorris Have you tried Homebrew? I've heard good things about it as a saner MacPorts alternative. http://github.com/mxcl/home...
  2. Just found a big old earthworm wriggling around on the kitchen floor. I think the cats' hunting standards are slipping.
  3. @threedaymonk I'm not sure I've ever seen 'for' in any Ruby code. Which is a good thing, of course.
  4. D'Oh! Forgot to go to the cashpoint on my way in. Not just an excuse not to buy the beers at lunchtime, honest!
  5. @steveellwood musical or expenses?
  6. Wow! Awesome 3D version of the Mandelbrot Set: http://bit.ly/1HuHAb (via @littleidea)
  7. Listening to @jonathancoulton performing the most excellent Code Monkey on @GeoffLloyd's @HometimeShow.
  8. @gkc Yes, if Directory supports tagging it's better than reinventing the wheel, as people are (a) already on it and (b) used to using it.
  9. @san1t1 @gkc Rewrites I've been involved in have mostly been successful too, but general wisdom seems to be that they never work.
  10. @gkc It's how you arrive at the Ns that I can't see being easily modelled. FWIW I think rewrites have a bad press.
  11. @gkc Isn't that a bit of a "how long are a random number of pieces of string?" question?
  12. @robcollingridge Latitude works, but sometimes you get a sharing request e-mail but the request doesn't show up in the app.
  13. Either I'm being particularly dense, or there's something wrong with the Google Latitude request acceptance process.
  14. RT @tottinge: "not logic" is second to bad naming in readability killer list. [I can't fail not to disagree]
  15. ☺Finally replacing a 'throwaway' system that's been in place since Feb. ☹CMS-based replacement already drowning in a sea of technical debt.
  16. @patmaddox It's a long-standing tradition for Apple to force you to pay for a new version of QuickTime Pro every time they upgrade the OS.
  17. @mahemoff Well spotted. I've added it to my .vimrc now too: http://bit.ly/KEqOa
  18. Has Jeff Atwood been talking to @FND? http://bit.ly/3WxTUV
  19. Upgrading to Ruby 1.8.7 and specs failing because of hash ordering? Use "should =~" instead of "should ==". #standup (thanks @patmaddox)
  20. It's barely November, and there are charity collectors here dressed as Santa! #bahhumbug
