  9. @ricetopher I think that's precisely the point. If you're getting paid, it's a better situation than looking for employment (like most).
  10. @ricetopher but compensation isn't the full picture. I'd much rather spend 10 hours a day reading theory than sitting in a cubicle...
  11. @ricetopher ...and the deal's not half bad at all. Not all academic situations (from undergrad to grad to faculty) are made equal
  12. @ricetopher ...who is getting me published while still working on my MA, a collegial atmosphere and intellectual stimulation...
  13. @ricetopher Add to that the fact that grad school has provided me with the best set of friends I've ever had and a supportive advisor...
  14. @ricetopher I made more than my older sister last yr b/c she was forced to work part-time jobs b/c she'd been laid off.
  15. @ricetopher I won't disagree that grad students are underpaid for the work we do, but we already possess greater job security...
  16. @ricetopher what part of that is different than not being in academia? Sounds no different than 99.9% of the population.
  17. @rkahne don't listen to @ricetopher, grad school is teh awesome!
  18. done. WIN!
  19. @wslentz dude, grad school is only different in the day-to-day and big picture. End of the semester? Just get done. Nothing else.
  20. technically, I only HAVE to write one more page.
