@ Finally, the system compiler on 10.6 always defaults to building x86_64 if your machine supports it. It is the default arch.

@ Both kernels support both the 32-bit and the 64-bit userspaces and can execute i386, x86_64 and even PowerPC binaries.

@ Mac OS X boots a 32-bit kernel by default, but also has a 64-bit kernel. The arch reported by uname reflects that.
