  1. One more virtual menorah: _ _ _ _ Í_ _ _í Now I'm off to light the real one! Gut Shabbes!
  2. Chanukkah lighting: Friday light one candle (plus shammes candle) BEFORE SUNSET. Saturday light two candles (plus shammes) AFTER DARK.
  3. Virtual Menorah: _ _ _ _ Ì_ _ _ì
  4. Chanukkah starts tomorrow night (Friday)! Light one candle (plus shammes candle) BEFORE sunset (before Shabbat)
  5. Chanukkah will never become a "trending topic" because no two people spell it the same. Chanukah, Hanukah, Hannukah, Honica, Schmonika!
  6. Latke update: I just remembered: last year I added 1 tsp. baking powder to my latkes and it came out great!!! Updating recipe on site...
  7. Latke Experiment note: all of the above start with the basic latke recipe on my site, then add the mentioned ingredients.
  8. Latke Experiment No. 5: Crumbled feta cheese and asparagus, with dill. This was popular last year; still good!
  9. Latke Experiment No. 4: shredded marinated fresh mozzerella... mmm... had an interesting pizza note ... next time maybe with sun-dried toms
  10. Latke Experiment No. 3: broccoli cheddar... had potential, but I forgot salt and pepper! Also, should have shredded the cheese, not diced
  11. Latke Experiment No. 2: Not so good, ackshully. Made a thin batter to put in a latke mold, but mold was not non-stick! Tasty, though.
  12. @CheeseBrainster All of the consonants are ones that can be absorbed into vowels, so pronunciation of The Name is very tricky.
  13. @CheeseBrainster : the consonants are known (http://www.jewfaq.org/name.htm#Names); the vowels are not
  14. @CheeseBrainster : I wouldn't presume to explain why another religion thinks something.
  15. Pre-Chanukkah Latke Experiment #1: latkes with romanesco! http://christiescorner.com/2009/11/19/romanesco/
  16. Happy Kislev! Today is the first day of the month of Kislev on the Jewish calendar. Coming soon: Chanukkah on the 25th of Kislev!
  17. @Indieles : It is a temporary building for the holiday Sukkot, http://www.jewfaq.org/holiday5.htm - I had to take it down quick before rain!
  18. @DecentMan : sorry, no, it's Descartes. http://bit.ly/17KUDc
  19. More pages updated to the new format. Lots of bad links fixed, esp on Yiddish page. Sad to see that so many good sites gone.
  20. @RachelSchain Indeed, I have become a twit. If Descartes were alive today, he would have said, "I tweet, therefore I am."
