  1. Who says there are no bargains at the butcher? 2 pounds of chicken livers, under $4, makes more pate than you can eat at 2 parties.
  2. Making chocolate bourbon cake. Trying to decide whether to squander the Woodford Reserve or venture out to buy something cheaper. Hmmm.
  3. The only xmas decorations my partner Stephen has ever actually liked are at Txikito -- 9th Ave between 24 and 25. Check 'em out.
  4. @julialangbein @Francis_Lam concert at st chapell?
  5. @ruthreichl True, it's been turning up all over the place. Plus it's still low food cost for restaurateurs, but exciting for customers.
  6. House smells great -- making Lollie's Lemon Fruitcake, the tastiest creation ever to bear that much-maligned name. http://TwitPWR.com/ziv/
  7. Um... literally. (Is "litrally" used by the same folks who say "nucular"?) I always did need a copy editor.
  8. Tipsy Parson last night. Good pub-style food (fried chicken livers, yum), nice room. Curious, though, that the crowd was litrally 85% women.
  9. @ruthreichl About time this happened, but if actually honored, it's going to surprise a lot of readers.
  10. @Francis_Lam@iknauer Well, you know what they say, "The imperfect is our paradise."
  11. T-giving in Costa Rica: Bacon-stuffed turkey, roasted beets and boniatos, cranberries with sour orange, green salad, brownie muffins. Yum.
  12. Some consolation: Look for Francis, starting next Monday (I think) on salon.com.
  13. Another sad victim of Gourmet's demise = Francis Lam's posts on gourmet.com. Here's the very first one he ever did: http://TwitPWR.com/xQ5/
  14. @thejgold of course. and perhaps a grilled chop on the side.
  15. Costa Rica for Thanksgiving. What to have instead of turkey? I'm thinking a stuffed red snapper with mashed plantains and roast cherimoya.
  16. DInner at Robert and Tara's last night -exquisite pork confit, mustard greens, & barlota beans, preceded by lovely scallops. Yum.
  17. Best treat of an afternoon of eating in Flushing: Peking duck buns, with the duck meat and skin substituting for the usual pork. INcredible.
  18. Dinner last night confirmed it: Farm-raised venison and trout are almost completely tasteless. Why even bother to order them?
  19. Wondering what is the best new ingredient you have discovered this year. Mine would have to be delicata squash (behind the curve, I know.)
  20. Believe it or not: At Knife & Fork Restaurant in Spruce Pine, NC (pop 1,989, way up in the mountains) - best braised rabbit I've ever had.
