  8. saw Mastodon at the Palladium: intricate art metal, great guitar playing, visuals of wizards and druids and gryphons. Devil horn salute!

  10. hadn't seen STRAW DOGS since film school: unbelievably tense drama that builds to an explosive fury, Dustin Hoffman's transformation - whoa!
  11. THE BOONDOCK SAINTS is not a good movie. At all. Not even a little.
  12. MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS: clever and amusing, esp. the tone, but I'm not sure I came away with much of a theme
  13. LAW ABIDING CITIZEN: too many holes in the script to work, but great, just-right-for-the-story photography by my pal Jonathan Sela
  14. 2 lessons from the OPM party last night: 1) dubstep is better as a side dish, not a main meal 2) 18-&-up brings a sketchy crowd
  15. first time in the Downtown Independent Theater: excellent new revival house in downtown L.A., gonna spend some time here for sure!
  16. saw ZOMBIE by Lucio Fulcio: eerie wide shots of zombie infested town, great 70's synth score, terrific opening, B-movie flesh eating.
  17. forgot how beautiful and sexy Jean-Jacques Annaud's THE LOVER is. Lush period design, gorgeous light. And Jane March? Yow!!!!!

  19. Pixies show: played Doolittle straight thru but the show had to end by 11 so everybody in the audience could get home to the babysitter
  20. Hired smart experienced writer for Spanish thriller re-write, compiling notes, looking forward to getting started this weekend.
