  5. finally, a seminar i can get excited about: john grotzinger of caltech/JPL, lead project scientist of the mars science laboratory mission
  6. @drjonboyg that's certainly true for the most part -- especially when the topic at hand is AGW. there are some pleasant surprises though.
  7. talking to NASA's anthony colaprete was one of the year's highlights so far
  8. the part i like best about science writing? talking to all the brilliant researchers, of course
  9. @tedtrimmer unfortunately, i haven't had much time in recent weeks to do much reading (let alone write). busy prepping for a cruise...
  10. one more story to check out today (if you have access to science): the evolution of religion http://tinyurl.com/yzj7dsu

  12. nature has an interview with a CERN insider to discuss the best story of the week: the destructive baguette http://tinyurl.com/ya56w6o
  13. @climos i was being sarcastic, of course. i'm well aware that there'll be plenty more coming now that more scientists are investigating it
  14. i'd share what else i've browsing, but i doubt many of you care about zooplankton community structure. (neither do i, but it's for a paper.)
  15. what's this? yet more geoengineering articles? http://tinyurl.com/y8z2lzw
  16. now i remember why i hated doing dissections in college: the horrid smell of formalin. and i get to do it 3 times this week for my students1
  17. @j_timmer you say that like it's a bad thing ;)
  18. counting down the days until thanksgiving week, when i'll be taking a much-needed break and going up to the bay area to visit friends/fam.
  19. @tedtrimmer looks very cool. i hope it'll make its way over to my neck of the woods in due time.
  20. compared to keeping archaea strains in culture, keeping cyanobacteria and phytoplankton in culture is easy (though i'm still no good at it).
