  6. The 1900 Paris Olympics had 7 men's swimming events, including a 200 meter obstacle swim and underwater swimming.
  7. The first Olympic swimming gold medal, was won by Alfred Hajos of Hungary in 1:22.20 for the 100 m freestyle in 1896.
