  1. @K12Live Thanks for the ff LaRon! Have a great weekend!
  2. @Gaiaellyn I agree - I think it needs to be more systemic and recognized by decision makers... Talk more later! :)
  3. Oh people - such silence! There must be ways of influencing ed reform to include culture & community as foundational to change!! Ideas?
  4. @cindyu Kind of like how our kids don't learn if they don't see relevance or understand the bigger picture purpose?
  5. Ok I have some agreement - so now a question: how can we influence ed reform decision makers to see culture/community as foundational?
  6. @jimgroom And there are so many of us here - idealistic maniacs... Surely we can find ways to shift the system to see reform differently?
  7. I should add - no program will work in a systemic way, across a community. It will stay in pockets, driven by the sheer force of individuals
  8. In my opinion, anyways...
  9. If you have the culture of support, kindness and tolerance, you can do anything! If you don't, no action or program will work!
  10. Perhaps that's the missing link in ed reform efforts - they focus on "what do we do" rather than "what kind of culture do we have?"
  11. When I look at places that are making community wide change happen, it has more to do with "who we are" than "what we do".
  12. Just complaining about how ppl aren't changing doesn't help - that creates pressure, but doesn't overcome fear!
  13. As leaders and learning community members, we need to create a space of safety and trust that supports change.
  14. @Gaiaellyn From a mtg with new school planning committee, speaker talked about "making learning visible" - same concept as parents, I think!
  15. Thinking about how ppl change (particular how they do or don't initiate it) and what role tolerance & kindness can play in that process
  16. It'll be 5 kids, 1 dog and me... :) Preparing for chaotic fun!!
  17. Not sure what I've gotten myself into tomorrow night - friend's 2 kids staying over and now promised to dog sit for another friend!
  18. @Gaiaellyn Been thinking that modelling different way & teaching kids about self reflection, feeling, etc may shorten that cycle. Thoughts?
  19. @Gaiaellyn Back to change your mind, change the world, yes?
  20. @Gaiaellyn Hadn't thought of adding other ppl - thx, will add to my practice!
