  1. English weather so far today: 8am: getting light. 9-10: sunny interval. 11: cloudy. 12: raining. As usual.
  2. My recent travels in a nutshell: Morocco- bright colorful dry stunning. London- not! Shoes still damp from yesterday's downpours.
  3. wondering where one might find cranberries or maple syrup in Madrid.... not even hoping for a turkey....
  4. May the fleas of 1000 camels infest the crotch of your enemies & may their arms be too short to scratch.
  5. I'm in a hotel in Erfoud. There is a camel in the bar-- a very cute clean one, not like the ones we've been riding for the last 4 days.
  6. packing for 2 wks in Morocco: hat, sunscreen, hiking boots, long sleeve shirts, long skirts, fleece vest, gloves, thermal undies, pencils...
  7. back home in Madrid, afraid to look at the 190 waiting emails
  8. The Alhambra lives up to all expectations. And we have a computer available down the hall from our room. So much for going without access.

  10. Etiquette challenge: what to do with the thong undies that have fallen onto my patio from the clothesline of the flat upstairs?
  11. Tonight for the first time I cooked fresh sardines in garlic & olive oil--- estupendo!
  12. Good news: my visa for long stay in Spain has been approved. Bad news: it's in Washington DC & I must pick it up before Oct 15. HAHAHA!
  13. The Spanish dinner hour is a real strain on us. It's 8:30, I'm drinking wine, D is starving, and the reservation is still a ways off.
  14. A first: I went for a stroll this evening and 2 women asked me directions to the metro, which fortunately I knew & was able to tell them!
  15. I'm getting lots of online ads in Spanish, now that I have an IP address in Spain, I guess. Today's favorite: Mujeres sexy en el chat!
  16. Today's discovery: we can both get in to the Prado for free, as profesores. That old UNC card of mine is right handy.
  17. What? a rainy day in Madrid? Shocking!
  18. One thing about living in a city-- lots of smells wafting in. It was fresh asphalt earlier today, now it's garlic.
  19. my new favorite sign, at the Madrid Burger King: Nuevo! Angry Whopper! ?huh?
  20. Discovery of the day: sangria in a carton! OK maybe it's not great, but it is drinkable. At least so far....
