heddahfeddah

All the stair climbing in Haifa is turning my calves into toast. Today I feel like I can hardly move, but off we go... Pain temporary...

heddahfeddah I like how it is customary here to provide a cup of toothpicks along with your check after a meal.
heddahfeddah @rvr I'm impressed. I couldn't eat my whole quinoa salad, but hey now I have instant leftovers! Mine was dressed with lemon and honey, yums.
heddahfeddah Flyers all around the city in Hebrew mostly on these mini billboards http://twitpic.com/4zuy Plus some graffiti, covering this intersection
heddahfeddah A couple shops before they opened this am, also not far from Massada Street subway stop. Stylized Hebrew everywheres http://twitpic.com/4zue
heddahfeddah Typical Haifa apartment building, this one seen at about 7:30 this morning while I was walking from Massada subway http://twitpic.com/4zu1
heddahfeddah Some buildings look so blighted it's as though they were bombed. Last summer, maybe they were! Glad this summer's a little more peaceful.
heddahfeddah Thinking about why my handbag gets checked makes me uncomfortable. But it's same reason ppl here are so serious and toughened at times.
heddahfeddah My handbag gets checked by officers going into a small mall or restaurant. Walking around alone at midnight near hotel however seems fine.
heddahfeddah There is blight here in Haifa but it seems to have different causes and effects than in US cities. Security concern here also has diff focus
heddahfeddah there's that "you can't get there from here" feeling I know from New England. Many shortcut discoveries. Walk uphill at noon, die of sweat.
heddahfeddah City of Haifa copes with steep mountainside with roads side to side and old staircases up and down. Trees everywhere, parks that meander.
heddahfeddah Inside Greg's for after dinner refreshment. Little portraits on the wall. Great truffles. Open 24 hrs. Tres chic. http://twitpic.com/4xnt
heddahfeddah Helpful sign reminding all who pass of the "danger of death!" http://twitpic.com/4xnr
heddahfeddah View from our hotel room of Haifa Bay on evening of our arrival: http://twitpic.com/4xng No pesky screen, no bugs either, just breeze.
heddahfeddah Tonight we had Asian fusion Israeli style. http://twitpic.com/4xn5 Lunch today was fruit, yogurt, hummous, bread from small grocery.
heddahfeddah Outside Baha'i pilgrim center where I found respite from heat, int'l travelers and helpful everything: http://twitpic.com/4xmm
heddahfeddah @astridiana so true, and you should see the train that travels the coastline - I'll get pics of that on the way home - v nice, cushions too.
heddahfeddah Inside the Carmelit subway which operates in a straight line up, down the mountain in Haifa: http://twitpic.com/4xh7 - costs 5.5 shekels
heddahfeddah Just took a ride on the Carmelit subway, not bad at all Haifa.
