  1. BADLANDS: beautiful, whimsical, clever. oddly the only Malick I hadn't seen...could be my favorite.
  2. @AndrewDignan if it's significantly worse than TAKING WOODSTOCK, i'm seriously dreading seeing it
  3. BAD LIEUTENANT: POCNO: B. Enthrallingly eccentric in both direction and narrative. Plot hits several dead ends, & yet persists. Great pulp.
  4. SHERLOCK HOLMES: C. Ritchie flails about trying to make Dan Brown-esque historical fiction bad-ass. Just middling mostly. Downey solid.
  5. After that I'm compelled to watch TEAM AMERICA or (the new) BAD LIEUTENANT.
  6. LIVERPOOL: C-. Formalism for the sake of formalism. Can't help but wonder if fests/crix would care about this if it were made by an NYU grad
  7. Are modern moviegoers so mentally inactive that AVATAR's allegorical elements are referred to as "hidden messages?"
  8. @nictate loove Ring Ring, and digging other Sleigh Bells tracks as well. they and Real Estate are my two new favorites.
  9. 35 SHOTS OF RUM: B. Typically hypnotic and poetically composed, deftly balancing melancholy w/o dourness. Lacks punch of Denis' best, though
  10. @nictate is the rest of their stuff as good as "Crown on the Ground?" recently discovered that track via P4K.
  11. @vrizov believe it's unreleased (commercially in 09), not undistributed
  12. @CinemaPoaching RUM, LIVERPOOL, LIMITS OF CONTROL, THE SUN, POLICE ADJ, BRONSON, & hopefully AFTERSCHOOL. bunch of others, too
  13. @CinemaPoaching I've got 35 SHOTS OF RUM & can get anything else available once I get home in a couple days. Priority 09's to see:
  14. @CinemaPoaching Sounds good, that gives me some extra motivation to catch up once my break officially starts. HUNGER = 09?
  15. /Do the Right Thing/: A. Still among best of all time. So incredibly dynamic & aims its radicalism at hate rather than simply point fingers
  16. /Synecdoche, NY/: B. Tons of inventiveness and I dig Kaufman's ambition but last act still tedious & overwrought.
  17. @CinemaPoaching will do...hopefully January
  18. technology/money still doesn't move me like Lubezki, Doyle or Deakins.
  19. AVATAR: C+. When did a wide angle lens become insufficient for creating visual depth? Inane script, often visually stimulating but all that
  20. @gemko TONY MANERO has 5 votes-all from male crix. can't deny the near parallel implications
