  1. Right, that's it. Enough. Sick and bloody tired of playing with this now.
  2. 'Course, the stupid thing is configured so that non-root users don't have access to the GPIO header. <sigh>
  3. (Incidentally, this section is supposed to be "Robotics and Hardware Hacking," but the ToC doesn't say *anything* about robotics. Hmm.)
  4. The circuit. Can't get much simpler than that: two resistors, an LED and a button. via.me/-1qmsvlq
  5. 'Course, it's a daft example: wire the switch in series with the LED and you don't need a Pi. Gotta start somewhere, though!
  6. Okay, basic input/output circuit completed (nothing posh: a button as the input and an LED as the output. Python control program.)
  7. @xpd259 I need something to detect when people skip over the warnings, and then make a hand come out of the book and slap 'em.
  8. Three warnings in quick succession suggest that this is going to be the chapter to get the most "YOU BROKE MY PI" emails to the publisher.
  9. Writing the chapter on 'Robotics and Hardware Hacking.' May need to get them to change the title; there's not a lot of robot in here...
  10. @GusTavToo In my case, I sent very little. "How many pages long are the chapters you haven't written?" "Currently? Zero."
  11. "It's worth it. It is. It's worth it, it's worth it, it's worth it..." Joey Slotnick as Steve Wozniak, Pirates of Silicon Valley (1999.)
  12. Email from publisher, CC'd to all and sundry, asking for things I don't have yet. Reply. Autoresponder: "I'm off work til Wednesday." #rage
  13. @Beardy Welcome to the wonderful world of publishing, where reward is inversely proportional to effort.
  14. @Beardy Hah! I'm sure people will be getting rich off this thing, but I very much doubt I'm going to be one of 'em.
  15. @StillHarpingOn Yeah, found a cheapy-cheap Chinese thing on FleaBay. Should do the trick - it's just a box, a UV tube, and a timer.
  16. @_SteveWilson_ Blimey! Aye, I'll snag a copy once you're done, ta. I have little to offer in return, save every issue of Commodore Format.
  17. @lingmops @tomnomnom Only if I was talking about the physical object, rather than the concept: I was sold on the idea of reading it. :p
  18. @MrPJEvans Two books? I only got one: Basics of Timex Sinclair etc. What was the second?
  19. @TomNomNom "Simple and easy to understand?" Sold! I'll borrow it once I'm done with my own book, ta!
  20. Broke down and ordered a Batronix BX32P Barlino II EPROM blower. No, I can't afford it. Anyone want to buy a lung? One careful owner!
