  1. Then in Error Alert tab, select checkbox and create error message like "The radiation shield on this computer has failed; step back 5 feet."
  2. Fun with spreadsheets: Data > Validity, Criteria tab. Specify requirements for certain cells in Criteria like char. limit or type of data.

  5. To include instructions in a doc that won't print, use Notes. Insert > Note. Right-click on note to edit. File > Print > Options to print.
  6. Use layers in Draw; three tabs at bottom. Lock the layer so you don't accidentally move it; rightclick on tab, Modify Layer, Lock checkbox.
  7. Use any MS template in OOo. In OOo: File > Open, tweak as needed, then File > Templates > Save. Use it: File > New > Templates & Documents.
  8. Make a combo file under File > Export to PDF, Make Hybrid File checkbox. Opens in OpenOffice editable or in Reader. Need Sun PDF extension.
  9. For more manageable graphics, anchor As Character. Right-click and choose Anchor > As Character. Use text toolbar to center; can't drag.
  10. To make text wrap around a picture, right-click on picture and choose Wrap > Page Wrap. Anchor it (right-click > Anchor) to page or para.
  11. Photo album with GUI extension rocks. In Impress, point to directory of graphics and create presentation, 1 graphic for each page.
  12. Fight outdated typing: Tools > AutoCorrect Options, select Ignore Double Spaces. Also mark Use Replacement Table, both checkmarks, at top.
  13. When using connector lines, add more connector points to objects by choosing Edit > Glue Points. On the toolbar, click Insert Glue Point.
  14. To see a presentation centered and the right size, click the Zoom icon dropdown on toolbar and select Zoom Page.
  15. Double-click to select a word; triple-click to select a sentence; quad-click to select a paragraph. Ctrl-Select to select nonconsec. text.
  16. Found a new (?) icon in OOo 3.2 2/3 of the way along the standard toolbar: now has an icon for form controls. (For impulsive form creation.)
  17. File > Wizards > Web Page. So many goodies for PDF and HTML conversion hidden where nobody looks.
  18. You can't drag one cell in Calc, but you can drag two or more. Just select them, release the mouse, then click and hold down again and drag.
  19. The 3.2 OpenOffice Guidebook is coming by the end of November. 95% updated. Just doing the indexing, proofing, formatting, etc.
