  1. Just walked into Notre Dame and the organist is practicing. Truly magnificent.
  2. Lesson from immigration symposium: U.S. Has a lot it can teach Europe. Really. (I know, I was surprised, too.)
  3. Media are great at covering events, but immigration covered well is coverage of a process. More difficult.
  4. Comments in social networks about immigrants generally positive; comments on online stories often the opposite. Anonymity a reason.
  5. Panelist: Content analysis shows social networks have the most positive comments about immigrants. Broadcast and cable the least.
  6. Am at opening session of Immigration Reporting Symposium in Paris. One observation: Every minority needs a minority to persecute.

  14. Just finished keynote at Center for Pub. Policy Conf. in Riga, Latvia. Audience member told me he just did his first Tweet about it.
  15. Another thing great about Riga: the food is excellent. Pan European and American. Some Asian.
  16. Downtown Riga, Latvia, is history through architecture. Styles of various times and/or occupiers.
  17. Had great meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Latvia, Judith Garber. Then met several people applying to Knight News Challenge.
  18. But my hosts named a pet after Hillary, because they love her, too.
  19. Just had great dinner with Latvian hosts. Lots of talk about US politics. "We, and all of Europe love Obama, you know."
  20. But Latvia U of I sweatshirt guy says, "I bought it in Chicago. To me it's just a sweatshirt." I was crushed.
