  2. I tried to move but I could not move my legs. I pulled myself with my arms and elbows and tried to put a tourniquet around Passini's leg.
  3. One of his legs was gone and the other was barely connected to his body. He screamed "Oh Jesus shoot me Christ shoot me". Then he was quiet.
  4. The ground was torn up around my head. I tried to move but I could not. I heard someone close to me screaming. It was Passini.

  12. I met the major and had a drink with him. He said the attack would start as soon as it got dark. Then I went back to the drivers.

  14. She gave me the necklace she was wearing -- a St. Anthony. She wasn't religious but she wore it anyway.
  15. Catherine was on duty but I asked an orderly to get her. She was feeling better. I told her I had to go up above the Plava for the attack.
  16. We were told that there is going to be an attack tonight and we had to go to the front. Before we left I stopped by the hospital.
  17. When I left I felt lonely and empty.
  18. I heard someone coming, but it was not Catherine. It was Miss Ferguson. She said that Catherine coudn't see me tonight.
  19. We walked together to the hospital. He did not want to come inside. I sat and waited in the reception hall.
  20. Rinaldi and I left. He thought I was drunk but I told him I wasn't. I chewed on some coffee beans to try and sober up.
