  14. I wondered if I should tell her what her son and those boys had done to me.But I said nothing.

  16. I listened to her rant about her son, all the while thinking that she didn’t even know the half of it.
  17. “He’s spoiled rotten, that kid,” Troy’s Mom muttered from the driver’s seat. “I don’t know why he has to be so mean.”
  18. He flipped the bird instead. I’m not sure who he meant it for―me or his mother.
  19. I looked over my shoulder and saw Troy standing in the middle of the road. He lifted one hand as if to wave.
  20. Troy’s Mom let out an angry huff, then shifted the car in gear and pulled away from the curb.
