  1. Valkyrie (2008): Gripping war thriller with good tension throughout and strong performances. A return to form for director Singer.
  2. Friday the 13th (2009): Pointless and tedious remake of a slasher classic brings nothing new and totally deforms a horror icon.
  3. Logan's Run (1976): Once-classic sci-fi film hasn't aged well, filled with ropey effects and strange characters but interesting concepts.
  4. The Bunker (2001): Tense, dark WWII horror thriller never seems to reach full intensity but entertaining nonetheless.
  5. Let the Right One In (2008): Cold, haunting exploration of love, death and isolation. Full review: http://tinyurl.com/dfabxu
  6. The Children (2008): Grim and terrifying English horror film stays intense throughout thanks to excellent use of sound and editing.
  7. My Name is Bruce (2007): Unfunny and self-indulgent meta-comedy that even avid Bruce Campbell fans will struggle through. Disappointing.
  8. Taken (2008): Unashamedly xenophobic revenge B-movie, overlong (at 93 mins.) and overwrought. Almost so bad it's good but not quite.
  9. Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008): Light comedy filled with likeable characters and some very funny moments but nothing terribly memorable.
  10. Doomsday (2008): Entertaining if slightly muddled apocalyptic action, heavy on style and homage but light on substance.
  11. Punisher: War Zone (2008): Bloody reboot of the franchise stays closer to Ennis' comics; weakened by some overacting but still enjoyable.
  12. Watchmen (2009) full review: http://tinyurl.com/aht4ou
  13. Transporter 3 (2008): Tepid follow-up to the insanity that was T2; fewer action sequences mixed with weak female lead makes for tedium.
  14. Burn After Reading (2008): Inverse Cold War noir from the Coen Brothers, occasionally very funny and filled with interesting performances.
  15. Outlander (2008): Enjoyable fantasy adventure somewhat marred by familiar plot and ropey CGI; historical accuracy is questionable at best.
  16. Ghost Story of Yotsuya (1959): Classic Japanese folktale (grandfather of modern J-horror) builds slowly to a frightening and gory climax.
  17. Infection (2004): Dark and disturbing Japanese hospital horror with great scares and nightmarish atmosphere.
  18. All the Boys Love Mandy Lane (2006): Interesting slasher film with great visuals and a terrific soundtrack. http://tinyurl.com/7d3mle
  19. Outpost (2008): Tense and scary horror film loses momentum near the end but entertaining overall with solid acting and gore.
  20. Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008): CGI follow-up to game series with decent animation but average voice acting. Better than previous films.
