  1. And the voices say to me, quietly, but ringing true and clear, "Pick up the phone and listen to the dial tone and you will hear the truth."
  2. But they begin to tell a story in whispers. It's just out of grasp but it seems like all I have to do is listen harder.
  3. How strange. I may have to endure these "ghost sounds" for the rest of my life, my ears (and head) now separate from the rest of me.
  4. I grabbed my head and ran out of the room, listening to the sounds of her maniacal laughter following me. Somewhere I heard a phone ringing.
  5. "OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!" cried she (in ecstasy). "This bejeweled phone will look DAHLING mounted to a casting of your cranium!"
  6. But I had to get down to it. The queen turned towards me as I presented her with the "treasure." It was my old phone but she was ecstatic.
  7. "So what's this about finding a treasure and getting a reward in return?" I didn't want to seem too eager.
  8. Wait, I was tied up with the phone -- I found my phone!
  9. It was the pretty young thing that I'd been IM'ing with all morning. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I was all tied up.
  10. (What I'm looking for is becoming an obsession.) Time to take a time out. The phone rings. "Hello?"
  11. What i was seeking was something slightly cooler than the LOLcat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOLcat) but then the phone rang to my glee.
  12. to start searching for the treasure while obsessing about the hot young thing. Fuck the phone! Wait, I don't know what I'm looking for yet.
  13. The phone is replaceable - disposable, repeatable. The other two, though both fleeting, offer the unknown. I do not hesitate
  14. Which did I want more: the hot young thing or the reward for finding the lost treasure? Could I score both? And what about the phone?
  15. I longed for the ability to stay on top of my verb tenses as much as I ached for a message from that hot young thing who promised adventure.
  16. I got angry at my own inability to make my subjects and verbs agree! (Ahem!) I also felt despondent because I was expecting a message.
  17. When I discovered my phone was missing, I sprung into action. When I search everywhere, then I just got really angry. Despondent, really.
  18. Exquisite Corps1 is an experiment in twitterature. We'll add a couple of writers and see where it goes.
