The thrill of live performance! It's irreplaceable @: Question for everyone: What can a theater play provide that a film cannot?

Fine performances too from students of the UST Conservatory. I hope to see an Ateneo School of Music in the not-too-distant future.

Did their repertoire consist of recent popular works? So when did the "museum piece" mentality hit the opera scene, here and elsewhere?

In fact, Mozart's operas were not even 100 years old in 1865, yet La Compania de Opera Francesa didn't stage them in Manila.

That would be like a current opera company not staging works older than 50 years. No Puccini, Verdi, Mozart. Who would attend?

Rossini's Barber, 1816, was the oldest performed. Verdi's Rigoletto, 1851, was newest. Only 14 years old in 1965, in fact.

Attended an interesting lecture today on operas staged in Manila by a European company in 1865. I was most curious about the repertoire.
