  1. heads up- to introduce info someone needs to be aware of. EX- Julie is coming for dinner tonight. Just a heads up she doesn't eat fish.
  2. How do you say an email address in Engllish? EX-englishfun@gmail.com EX- say it like this- englishfun at gmail dot com. (@=at .=dot)
  3. money to burn- to have lots of extra money to spend on non-essential items. EX-She bought that new ring? She must have money to burn.
  4. plastic- slang term for credit cards. EX- They used plastic to pay for their shopping so they earned points for cash back.
  5. elbow grease- needing to use much physical effort to complete a task. EX- It took some elbow grease to remove the food on the stove.
  6. What a bargain!-to say something is a great value,it costs little and is worth more.EX- Look at this sweater, what a bargain. It's only $15.
  7. Clerk- Can I help you find anything? Customer- No thank you, I'm just browsing.
  8. I'm just browsing.-What you say to the store clerk to say you are just looking and not intending to buy something. Example next post.
  9. window shopping-to look at the displays in the windows without going into the store.EX- I only went window shopping today; I bought nothing.
  10. EX- Can you please give me a break this time? I tried to finish the essay in time, but I got called to work extra hours, and I had to go.
  11. Give me a break.(2)-ask someone to give you extra time because you are trying your best and need special consideration due to a situation.
  12. Give me a break!(1)-to say you don't belive what someone is saying/tell them to stop trying to trick you.EX-That's not true,give me a break.
  13. the apple of one's eye-express something/someone is very special & important to you. EX- Their children are the apple of their eye.
  14. to hit the sack- go to bed EX: I had a long day. I think I'm going to hit the sack. (other version is hit the hay.EX: He hit the hay early.)
  15. to put your feet up- to relax. EX- I think I'll put my feet up for a bit and read the newspaper because I've been working all day.
  16. give something a shot- try to do something. EX- I've never set up a printer, but I'm going to give it a shot.
  17. I hit the ground running and finished all my holiday shopping in just one afternoon.
  18. hit the groud running-to begin your project without delay,work hard, & make good progress from the beginning.Example on next post.
  19. to run errands-a quick trip to complete a specific task. EX- Today I ran errands before I went home. I went to the bank and the post office.
  20. chores-jobs you do to clean your house (laundry/vaccuum/dust etc)EX-I did my chores this morning, so I am going to coffee with a friend now.
