  1. @CPPGeophysics That would be a great idea!
  2. @Allochthonous Some of the media reports I've seen confuse magma accumulation with generation. Very different timescales.
  3. And by great, I mean awful.
  4. I'll have more to say later, but man, they've set up a great strawman about zircon ages in volcanic products bbc.co.uk/news/science-e…
  5. @Allochthonous The key here is just the timescale of magma extraction from mush, not really magma generation.
  6. @CPPGeophysics Ugh. This is again such an oversimplification. What happens "quick" is magma extraction, not generation.
  7. @fLip_uk To get the magma out? Yup, seismicity, new heat or volatiles to get the liquid out.
  8. @fLip_uk It is my field of research, too. I'm a big "complex network" fan.
  9. @fLip_uk Sort of like squeezing a sponge of crystal mush.
  10. @fLip_uk @alexwitze I think the key is a rapid accumulation briefly before eruption, aggregating those pods in a network.
  11. @NASA_Giovanni Excellent, thanks!
  12. I've updated my post on the activity at Ruiz in Colombia with links to video of the ash in Manizales and new details: wired.com/wiredscience/2…
  13. Hillcorp, the company that wants to store oil at the base of Redoubt again, behaves with cartoonish villainy: alaskadispatch.com/article/worst-…
  14. This afternoon will be a lot of #madwriting on an NSF proposal. Woop whoop.
  15. Nice Aura/OMI image of SO2 emissions from Colombia's Ruiz on Sunday (May 27): so2.gsfc.nasa.gov/pix/daily/0512…
