  3. @journalproject I think the question is: does it matter more than getting a great school no matter who is inside of it.
  4. @journalproject re: tracking...both. regional high schools that pull from econ divers areas a great example. Atlantic City high great exmp.
  5. @journalproject but I also don't think that a school is all bad because it's not integrated.
  6. @journalproject ...they have competitive entrance exams of course, so they're more emblematic of the "exclusive" wing of the public system.
  7. @journalproject They do tend to offer better academic opportunities, even if they remain segregated. Lots of reasons for that...
  8. @journalproject I haven't done any research on their effect. but casual look at NJ data doesn't show they effect integration much.
  9. @journalproject but the faux integration that's supposed to be a bi-product really just creates two schools in the same building.
  10. @journalproject I think the ed establishment generally things "informed" consumers will choose the best school no matter where it is...
  11. @journalproject state of the art facilities and everything. Project was a massive failure...but not a failure of the magnet model.
  12. @journalproject actually...it was KC. They literally paid cab fare for white kids from the suburbs to come to school in town.
  13. @journalproject What you cite was a guiding principal behind magnet expansion in Connecticut...and St. Louis as well (I think St. Louis).
