  1. @GOPthinker And frankly, using extremely rare late-term abortion as justification for the outlawing of ALL abortion is silly.
  2. @GOPthinker And in my mind, the rights of a thinking, feeling, absolutely-for-sure person trump the rights of an almost-person.
  3. @GOPthinker ...the interests of the mother with the interests of the fetus when they conflict.
  4. @GOPthinker I understand that an almost-full-term fetus is really close to personhood, but the reality is that it's hard to balance...
  5. @GOPthinker The vast majority of abortions happening at that stage are for medical reasons. Go read some of Dr. Tiller's patients' stories.
  6. @GOPthinker ...than it was at 8 weeks. I don't specialize in elective late-term abortion issues, though, because they're SO rare.
  7. @GOPthinker The "black and white" thing refers to the fact that I acknowledge that a fetus is a LOT closer to being a person at 38 weeks...
  8. @GOPthinker A fetus gets access to full legal rights when it is no longer violating those of its mother. When it leaves her body.
  9. @GOPthinker "Personhood" isn't a scientific term... for my purposes I use "person" as shorthand for "human with Constitutional rights."
  10. @GOPthinker I have no respect for that kind of anti-abortion argument. If you want to talk personhood or bodily domain, that I'll consider.
  11. @GOPthinker Some pro-lifers use arguments like post-abortion trauma and breast cancer as reasons why it should be outlawed.
  12. @GOPthinker I didn't say you had, although the majority of your cohorts do. I'm just saying this means you admit those are dumb arguments.
  13. @GOPthinker The difference between your ridiculous "baby's born but I want it dead!" scenario and normal abortion is huge.
  14. @GOPthinker Unlike you, I don't see every issue as black and white.
  15. @GOPthinker Although it's a much shakier claim when the fetus is born, viable and only separated from personhood by an umbilical cord.
  16. @GOPthinker So are you saying you promise never to use risks/side effects/post-abortion trauma as an argument for why abortion is wrong?
  17. @GOPthinker At that point it's far easier to cut the cord than anything else. But technically bodily domain still applies.
  18. @GOPthinker I answered it earlier. "It doesn't qualify for legal rights until it is no longer attached to the woman."
  19. @GOPthinker Yes, it's totally irrelevant to the question of whether abortion is wrong. Doesn't mean I'll let it sit there unchallenged.
  20. @GOPthinker I'm glad you get so much pleasure out of proving me wrong on the spelling of Suze Orman's name.
