  1. Orthopedic Physical Therapist is a good example. In the US, it certainly means more than "straightening out children" or post surgical rehab
  2. Like "PHYSICAL therapist", words and titles in healthcare take on meaning over time within the context that they are used....
  3. Of course PTs also evaluate and manage domains other than just the "physical" in P.T. (e.g. psychosocial, cognitive-behavorial etc)
  4. What about "Manual Physical Therapist": literal translation = a therapist that uses his hands to treat physical conditions...?
  5. Are "Orthopedic PT" and "Musculoskeletal PT" synonymous? Are they the same specialty? Or is one a specialty and the other a sub-specialty?
  6. Does "Orthopedic Physical Therapist" literally translate to "a therapist who corrects or straightens out physical disorders in children"...?
  7. Dentists become periodontists, but they are still dentists.... osteopaths become cardiologists, but they are still DOs....
  8. After Fellowship in the UK, the MACP grants "Manipulative Physiotherapist", the Dutch grant "Manual Therapist", the Italians grant "OMT"....
  9. The USA is one of the only IFOMPT member organizations that doesn't grant a title following completion of a Fellowship in manual therapy
  10. Nurses become Anesthetists after specialization, but they are still RNs. Likewise, shouldn't PTs be granted a title after a Fellowship?
  11. When a PT completes a residency, he is then referred to as a PT?? What other healthcare profession gives no title after specialization?
  12. When a Dentist completes a residency, he is then referred to as an endodontist, orthodontist, periodontist, prosthodontist, pedodontist...
  13. Likewise, when a PT finishes a year long Fellowship program in a sub-specialty (manual therapy), he is referred to as a physical therapist?
  14. An MD colleague of mine just finished a year long Fellowship in spinal surgery, now he is referred to as a medical doctor or spine surgeon?
  15. Do orthopedic surgeons ever put MD, FAAOS after their name in the phone book? So why does AAOMPT discourage PTs from using DPT, FAAOMPT?
  16. Why do MDs refer to themselves by their specialty (e.g. physiatrist, neurologist, dermatologist), but PTs are discouraged from doing so?
  17. At south beach Miami. 85 degrees. Teaching SMT-1 spinal manipulation course this weekend to a lively group.
  18. Go to spinalmanipulation.org to download the PDF of the 2012 Supreme Court ruling in the Alabama State Board of Chiropractic v Dunning case
  19. There seems to be an online discussion over the OSTEOPRACTOR title. See SMIs homepage for my perspective on the topic spinalmanipulation.org
  20. Can physical therapy learn from the medical model? Should PT Board Certification (OCS) be more than a 200 question multiple choice test?
