  1. attended jazz nativity last night. really amazing musicians.
  2. Is it possible to clap with one hand?
  3. Dates like 1945 chose us. We didn't choose it. So how do we know if we're successful in Afghanistan? Seriously. Let's figure that one out.
  4. McCain talking "arbitrary dates". He makes a good point. The success of the mission determines the date.
  5. Speech just ended. President Obama is the President, and that office still demands respect. Now all of the "experts" weigh in. Sigh.
  6. Partisanship comments always make me laugh. Out loud. With gusto. Non-partisanship is often quoted when it fits a partisan agenda.
  7. Absolutely agree with Pres. Obamas remarks on providing opportunity and opposing oppression. We need an ethic not centered on entitlement.
  8. ...to dismantle first based on the ideal. The pragmatic aspect is that it is our strength which allows us to negotiate security.
  9. "True security comes from those who reject them (nuclear weapons)". Reminds me of conversations in the 80s under Reagan. Many wanted us...
  10. I agree with Obamas closing on us being able to end conflicts as well as we can wage them. But "how" is always the question.
  11. ...but opium warlords in Afghanistan have access to CNN. so probably break-even from a global communication standpoint on that issue.
  12. We need a specific target date - and perhaps that date would have been leaked. Tough call. Good from a communication to US standpoint...
  13. 3) Opposition to identification of timeframe: The issue is not the absence of timeframe, but the public announcement of that timeframe.
  14. 2) Go forward with existing troops/Status Quo: I agree. The Status Quo is unacceptable.
  15. Addressing problems: Afghanistan another Vietnam? No. But the end of this will resemble the end of the Korean War.
  16. The public in Pakistan is notoriously fickle. They are survivalists (they've HAD to be). They are not romantics (as is the US).
  17. We may want them. That does not mean they want us.
  18. Does Afghanistan want the US as a partner? Has it ever?
  19. When have we NOT supported political figures in Afghanistan who didn't want corruption? Wasn't that the standard for the last 8 years?
  20. ...actually far more complicated than stability in iraq (which is by no means "stable" without us troops).
