  1. THE BAD LIEUTENANT/Herzog 09/B+ Wow. A little uneven, but the best bits are glorious.
  2. Soup dumplings, I love you.
  3. FANTASTIC MR. FOX/Anderson 09/A- Dandy Anderson style, this time with a hint of Svankmajer. Just a great pleasure from start to finish.
  4. 2012/Emmerich 09/C Way better than INDEPENDENCE DAY, which ain't saying much. Cheeriest, cheesiest apocalypse ever.
  5. THE BOX/Kelly 09/C- 30-inch story, 46-inch pants.
  6. Waiting for Mavis Staples show to start in Tarrytown.
  7. @flmfrkcentral Now there's a hashtag for ya. #cockhorse
  8. Jonathan Rosenbaum reviewed his own book, MOVING PLACES, for Film Comment in 1981 under a pseudonym. Huh. http://bit.ly/33xtaW
  9. Criterion newsletter confirms Brakhage v2, plus HD upgrade. "Text of Light" party at my place! http://www.twitpic.com/p5n1d
  10. And the "Partly Cloudy" Pixar short -- absent from the press screening I saw -- is a keeper.
  11. Watched UP on Blu-ray last night. It's even better in 2D -- easier to see and appreciate everything in the frame.
  12. Hey Oscar Wilde! It's CLOBBERIN' TIME!!! (Collected artists' drawings of literary figures.) http://bit.ly/kJOeg
  13. @flmfrkcentral My wife just reminded me that my Criterion KANE had -- shock! horror! -- laser rot. Still, the scene in question was OK.
  14. @flmfrkcentral But I do still have AMBERSONS, DEAD RINGERS, THE GAME, SE7EN, FISHER KING, BREAKING THE WAVES etc etc etc.
  15. @flmfrkcentral Just realized -- shock! horror! -- Criterion KANE box didn't survive my most recent laserdisc purge. What was I thinking?
  16. @Soulsmithy I've long planned to do a split-screen video showing DVNR jacking up a great scene on CITIZEN KANE DVD vs original (from LD).
  17. @flmfrkcentral Telecine was at Sony, FWIW. Anyway, Criterion's SEVENTH SEAL is spectacular. 3RD MAN too (tho cropped a bit tight).
  18. @flmfrkcentral I think conv. wisdom is LCD/plasma accentuates grain in bad ways, requiring at least some DVNR to get "right" look.
  19. REPULSION/Polanski 65/A-/Pretty scary, actually; Deneuve is great. Criterion Blu-ray is nice; some shots exhibit a bit too much DVNR.
  20. @flmfrkcentral SONGS FROM THE SECOND FLOOR is pretty awesome but not on my decade list. L'HUMANITE is singular, but I can take or leave it.
