  1. Finished canning 34 qts. and 26 pts. of tomatos. The black krim tomatoes were awesome. Seeing the way they changed colors thru the process
  2. Dug 400 #'s of Binjte potatoes with Erin, CJ, and Jen this morning, Re -bedded and fed around 6,000 worms in the afternoon.
  3. local bratwurst boiled in beer with 6 Binjte potatoes. Grilled them with ear of fresh corn and 1st Russian Purple tomato...awesome
  4. Picked 3 five gal. buckets of Zephyr Squash this evening. http://tinyurl.com/q6244k
  5. Cut the vines on 440' of Binjte potatoes with a hand sickle to ready them for plowing tomorrow. http://www.piedmontwine.com/sip/sickle.jpg
  6. Set out 49 late tomato plants with Erin. Rooted from pruned suckers from main crop tomatoes. More sucker plants still in the greenhouse.
  7. Spot sprayed potatoes with Spinosid, a biological insecticide to control the larvae of the the Colorado potato beetle.
  8. Harvested lettuce and green garlic for market
  9. Had help today. Jonathan showed up and Erin, a UNC student who wants to help out 2 days a week for free. Cool!
  10. Mulched our small patch of Goji berry plants after lunch. 5 round bales of wheat straw. Overkill.
  11. Enjoying a good amount of rain. Over 1.5" so far. Glad we slipped 130 sweet potato vines into the ground yesterday.

  13. Went to check on the chickens, they are huddled in the hen house. The 3 geese are oblivious to the snow /cold. Still 36 in the greenhouse

  15. Went to Tractor Supply and picked up 5 bags of shavings for the hen house, it is mess with all the rain.

  19. Spent a 1/2 hour this morning reading over my bio-dynamic farming calender trying to make some sense of it.
