  1. The Caps are going to need a comeback to stay undefeated at home. They came into the game 9-0-1 at Verizon Center.
  2. If you're reading the Post's blog and seeing that the Panthers are 3-for-3 on the PP tonight, that's wrong. They're ONLY 2-for-3...
  3. After coming out flat in the 2nd and paying the price, the Caps can expect to hear some choice words from Bruce Boudreau in the locker room.
  4. It's been a frantic 6 minutes for the Caps, going from up 1-0 to down 3-1 as the Panthers score a couple on the Power Play.
  5. Nicklas Backstrom benefits from a lucky bounce to get the Caps on the board first. His centering pass for Ovechkin hit a D-man and went in.
  6. No score 11:15 in, although both teams have had a couple of good chances.
  7. Back at Verizon Center for game #25. No TV tonight thanks to Versus' time slot blackout rules, so I'll try to update the feed frequently.
  8. Backstrom returns for his 2nd shift, appears to have been an injury issue. And he earns an assist on Ovechkin's sneaky goal.
  9. Ovechkin and Kozlov's first shift of the third period sees Boyd Gordon as their center. No word of a Backstrom injury yet.
  10. Halak is the latest netminder to have a helmet dinged by an Alex Ovechkin shot. Ovechkin's wrister sent Halak to the bench for repairs.
  11. Fleischmann's forecheck incites a horrible Montreal turnover, Flash and Nylander give-and-go for the opening marker 9 minutes in.
  12. Montreal is down 2nd-leading scorer Alex Tanguay and enforcer George Laraque, plus Mike Komisarek. The Caps injuries are well-documented.
  13. Tonight's game is the Caps 4th sell-out of the young season, and Montreal fans are out en masse (and quite vocally, as well).
  14. Montreal starts backup Jaroslav Halak tonight, while the Caps counter with Theodore. Another AHLer debuts tonight, d-man Brian Helmer.
  15. Ovechkin JUST missed his 4th goal of the night on an empty net shot late in the 3rd. His shot from center ice hit the outside of the goal.
  16. The 2nd period ends with the Caps up 4-2.
  17. Slava Kozlov scored for the Thrashers on the power play with 6:54 left in the 2nd to cut the Caps lead to 4-2.
  18. Ovechkin completes the hat trick just 0:54 into the second on a pass from Poti to the slot. It's Alex's 6th career hat trick. Caps up 4-1.
  19. A penalty- and goal-filled 1st period ends with the Caps on top 3-1. We'll see if Ovechkin can get his first hat trick since March 3, 2008.
  20. Less than 2 minutes after Atlanta got one back on the power play to make it 2-1, Ovechkin gets his 2nd PP goal of the night to make it 3-1.
