  1. Thanksgiving dinner with friends, writing about Hegel and nature, enjoying recent sunny days, setting up the new MacBook pro laptop.
  2. For a class on the Stoics, wondering what happens to their views on emotion and reason, if we subtract their pantheism.
  3. Giving a talk at Lewis and Clark college today: a series of intellectual strategies moving from the Greeks and opening the door to modernity
  4. In Oregon, fighting a cold, writing a bit. Spent a windy day at the coast, at a seminar on the classic American pragmatist philosophers.
  5. Our final eve in Istanbul, an exciting collision old new now working on a Heiddergian Wiederholung of its Ottoman past.
  6. Contrary to guidebooks I found many salespeople in Istanbul bazaars helpful and not too pushy. There were some adhesive others, though.
  7. Up the Bosphorus, mix of old and new, lots of money. Poorer sections well inland. Majority of Turks under 25. A new country coming.
  8. Hagia Sophia lives up to and beyond it's reputation for grandeur and history. But big cruise ships do crowd things up in the city.
  9. Enjoying our view of sunrise on the Bosphorus and the fine things to see/do in Istanbul. With my concern for architecture it's amazing.
  10. Getting ready for two weeks in Istanbul. Gorgeous weather here, lots of work for the community organization I'm involved in.
  11. Back in Oregon. Working on a not so negative web essay on suburbs and peak oil, but spending time preparing for our trip to Istanbul.
  12. At Boothbay Harbor ME for a wedding. Great weather in Maine until today.
  13. Back in Maine for two weeks; reading about Plato and wondering if our media could ever have courage to label lies as lies.
  14. I worry about resistance to large technology among many greens and environmentalists. Local innovations are needed but are they enough?
  15. I'm at a minor league baseball game. Our home team is ahead. It's slow but less of a staged spectacle.
  16. Off to an all day hike in the Cascades, discouraged about civil discussion in the US, thinking of Plato and suburbia

  18. back from the coast, writing about cultural change, grilling ribs, trying to water the plants enough, hoping for change in health-care
  19. off to a dinner party, thinking about how Hegel remains relevant to discussions of cultural change that deny some of his key claims
  20. watering plants and trees, household chores, working on two essays, listening to the neighborhood crows arguing
