  1. Son, 13, epitome of digi-gen: "Dad, what's the difference between a simile and a metaphor?" There is still hope for humankind after all.
  2. Last night, after a few jars, an idea for a movie comes to me. I jot down main beats. One A4. This morning, sober, I still like it. Amazing.
  3. Encouraging script meeting last Friday about a comedy road movie idea. Could compensate nicely for cancellation of animated pilot. Grrrrrr!!
  4. The troubles with writers? They'll write anyway.
  5. More specifically: Creatives are treated like battery hens. Get in that cage and lay your eggs. Here's some stale corn for your trouble...
  6. Wasn't it Plato who envisioned the perfect society as one without artists? Sometimes I think producers and investors have a similar ideal.
  7. Adjusting my perspective after some bad news: The pilot we were working on has been cancelled. Something about "marketing strategies..."
  8. "It's easy to play the role of "artist,' but to actually create something means going against one's education." Keith Johnstone
  9. New blog post about Keith Johnstone, character status and The Departed. http://ravingdaveherman.blo... Enjoy!
  10. RT: Blog: Should you REALLY write a novel instead? (Or things for dramatists to think about before Nanowrimo!) http://bit.ly/2h1lLA
  11. @WellTold Excellent post! Screenplays are often more like short stories than novels. Should screenwriters write short stories instead?
  12. How do other screenwriters decide which spec script to work on when they have several in progress? Is it just whichever takes your fancy?
  13. Having great fun reading Impro by Keith Johnstone. Excellent stuff for screenwriters. Tx to @julianfriedmann for the recommendation!
  14. RT "The Missing Ingredient: Why 99% of All Screenplays Fail and How to Put Yours in the Top 1%" is up. Details at http://FASTscreenplay.com
  15. @Sofluid That's precisely what's tempting me. An idea for a script I've had forever, which keeps on telling me: "I'm actually a novel."
  16. Mulling whether to participate in NaNoWriMo. I'm tempted, for kicks. But if it's really about quantity, not quality, what's the pay-off?
  17. @jeffige I was in a meeting recently, where a producer paused to clarify, entirely seriously, "but we're all in this for the money, right?"
  18. @JasonArnopp I close the curtains when I read mine, in order to avoid being arrested for excessively melodramatic gesticulation.
  19. Great freebie chapter from Blake Snyder's latest, posthumous, book: http://www.blakesnyder.com/...!SB_Chapter3.pdf
  20. Toy Story 3 trailer http://bit.ly/39rdqA I can't wait!!
