@ @ yes, really easy. Optimize you have to be careful about - can be slow on large fulltexts, some servers will bork.

@ I'm not sure it would be accepted - problem is, takes a lot of storage, and needs regular optimisation runs. Too heavy for core?

Interesting - added a FULLTEXT index to wp_posts on post_content - improved search performance by factor of 60 here.

@ In this case it was the very simple query_cache_size setting, default is 0 on XAMPP installs (for good reason)
