  1. New samples and a big air shipment of baskets and soapstone for Coldwater on their way, fingers crossed for hasty arrival!
  2. Leslie has been in Tanzania this past week working with Marvelous Batik. Can't wait to see the samples they've worked up.
  3. Hired an agent for Senegal! Also, sent Wolof prayer mat hampers to Elle Decor to possibly be used in a photo shoot...excellent!
  4. We're bringing back our Survivor Savings...wholesale buyers get great discounts each week on selected categories. This week: African gourds.
  5. Senegal container issues are now resolved, so the ship should be departing within days, arriving in November--just in time for the holidays.
  6. Leslie departs next week for a month in Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda to develop Spring/Summer 2010 products. Ideas? Pass them along.
  7. Senegal: our container is still sitting in port waiting for bank documents to get sorted out. Ramadan will be observed until the 19th.
  8. Kenya: generous orders from Urban Outfitters and Coldwater Creek are keeping artisans busy. Leslie will touch down in Nairobi next week.
  9. Mozambique: the summer container is still on its way and already many items are sold out. So glad to hear Dimande's health is improving.
  10. Lead testing for our soapstone dyes came back last night, and we passed with flying colors. Nice to have the Veritas confirmation in hand.
  11. Ron Kirk was in Senegal discussing trade. We should send him a prayer mat basket as a memento.
  12. There's a cow horn bead necklace on my desk right now. I love the office, but I miss the feel and smell of the products...lucky packers.
  13. Senegal container loads on Wednesday. Too many baskets for this shipment, so we get to order a few of the other new designs. Good...
  14. Could getting a shipment trucked from Maputo to Johannesburg be a little more costly and difficult? Perhaps. Good thing it's worth it.
  15. Chance of rain today in Dakar, 2700 baskets from 6 villages sitting outside, waiting to go into container on Monday. Please Lord, no rain!
  16. Welcome, SwahiliPDX! Can't wait to see some Swahili Tweets from the girls!
  17. First day of the California Gift Show, and Papa and Percy are hopping! Apparently the booth has been full this afternoon. Asante, buyers!
  18. Reading up on the Ekegusii Project--recording the spoken language of the Abagusii people before it and Gusii traditions are gone forever.
  19. We'll be in booths 1001-1003 in Kentia Hall, part of the California Gift Show's Fair Trade Federation block. Come see us July 17-19!
