  1. Feature on Maria Schneider by Devin Leonard in the NY Observer. I am quoted. That soundbite is apparently irresistible. http://bit.ly/2CFYX8
  2. Pianist and buddy Randy Ingram's debut CD is out today: http://bit.ly/2puUvp CD launch hit is tonight at Cornelia St. Cafe - 8:30 PM.
  3. NYMag piece on Brooklyn bands, w/focus on Dirty Projectors, is actually refreshingly clear-headed: http://bit.ly/2FNZO0
  4. @mattmarks Agreed! Been using it since its release (shortly after OS X came out). That was back when OmniWeb was the only good browser.
  5. RT @fullyaltered: @mvjohnson's Wall Street Journal piece on Linda Oh & JD Allen out today: http://bit.ly/iiDz8
  6. Finally finished my CMJ diary -- plus a postscript about jazz's curious aversion to shows w/opening bands: http://bit.ly/43S8iA
  7. @Stouche Thanks so much for your very kind words.
  8. Joe Phillips' amazing, ambitious, beautiful piece Vipassana at the Brooklyn Lyceum tonight: http://bit.ly/Snh2Z
  9. Thanks to @NaxosUSA, the CD version of Infernal Machines is now available from Amazon: http://bit.ly/18lGOx
  10. Everyone else probably already saw this inspired bit of agit-pop on Friday's @maddow, but I'm a post it anyways: http://bit.ly/pBbVS
  11. @w_interrobang Clearly memorization is incredibly impractical for complex ens. music! But something happens when people get off the page.
  12. @dave_douglas @rhyshpanmusic Miguel Zenon has memorized a lot of Guillermo Klein's charts - he'll often play them with his eyes closed.
  13. @gtra1n Sure, some conductors conduct without a score, but how many have it memorized to where they could write out the score in full?
  14. Am clearly becoming curmudgeon RE: Japandroids skepticism in the face of crowd surfing. But I OD'd on that sound growing up in Vancouver.
  15. Jon Wikan is a highly impractical person with an impressive memory. I think the best he's ever played is that one time the charts were lost.
  16. I would be curious what others (especially non-musicians) think. Memorization of the music I write is highly impractical - except for Jon.
  17. I have previously referred to music stands (and by extension, notated music) as a "necessary evil, but definitely an evil" in my music.
  18. A (seriously) good question arises from dialogue btw Dave Douglas and a commentator. http://bit.ly/3PSnx7
  19. I really hate to slag on my hometown heroes, but Japandroids really have no rhythmic authority - like, none at all. I don't get it.
  20. Attention Internets: y'all are supposed to tell me about bands that have a deep pocket and blissful vocal harmonies - like Headlights. #cmj
