  1. @gnomeloaf Nice. Never watched the show, but read the book and got the joke. Good work with @nvillereview by the way. :)
  2. If the Senate gets its way, it may soon cost a little bit more to look like a piece of beef jerky: http://bit.ly/8H6dU8
  3. @BryanHoch I hope you're right. People are talking about Mark DeRosa as if he's a better option than Gardy.
  4. @adamdadkins I can't help it. I mean, it's Javy Vazquez! Could there have been a worse year than 2004 to be a Yankees fan? I think not.
  5. OK, bottom line on this Javier Vazquez thing: Given how tough it is to repeat as champs, Yanks probably weren't going to win in 2010 anyway.
  6. @Hank_Shaw Pure conjecture: Duck doesn't carry salmonella?
  7. Plenty of smart folks say Vazquez isn't dreadful. Fine. But I challenge you do the same for Mark DeRosa and his '09 combined .250/.319/.433.
  8. @BloggingBombers A losing record in two out of three seasons and an average 4.40 ERA is definitely setting a low threshhold for "happy."
  9. @charliezegers Yes, but doesn't pitching in the NL, and seeing a lot of the Mets and Nats, have something to do with that?
  10. Even the often sensible @TylerKepner calls Vazquez trade "tremendous." Yanks couldn't afford an extra $6m to Damon, but can pay Javy $11.5m?
  11. Red Sox fans already mocking Vazquez trade, but at least we didn't give him 5 years like boneheaded Lackey deal.
  12. @JoeAuriemmaNYY Still, I hate the notion that in a "contract year," players try harder. They should be going all out every year, regardless.
  13. @JoeAuriemmaNYY OK. Those are all good points. I just hope he never has to pitch to Damon with the bases loaded in an elimination game.
  14. @JoeAuriemmaNYY It's a demonstrated fact that some players who have stellar reps wilt in the Bronx. Javy did so once already. Why try again?
  15. @JoeAuriemmaNYY Wrong. This is a terrible deal. Cashman was utterly bamboozled. Not because it was Melky, but because it's Vazquez.
  16. A year after winning the World Series in 2005, the White Sox added Javier Vazquez. He went 11-12 with a 4.84 ERA. They finished third.
  17. @charliezegers I was just thinking about him. Cashman probably has him on speed dial. Not to mention Kevin Brown.
  18. Now maybe Cashman can get Miguel Cairo and Ruben Sierra back. They can platoon in left field.
  19. Memories of Javier Vazquez' previous sojourn in pinstripes come flooding back like a wave of raw sewage.
  20. If Johnny Damon decides that he'd rather play for the Braves, Giants or Nationals than come back to the Yankees, I'll grow a beard.
