  1. @randybias today perhaps. I suspect it would the AWS devs all of one weekend to implement a vCloud API endpoint
  2. @jamesurquhart by boundary, do you just mean network? with AWS, the only real difference between normal EC2 and VPC is the network
  3. @samj @jamesurquhart so then what's the difference between a private cloud and a virtual private cloud? what's being virtualized?
  4. @samj the real thing that drives openness is pain caused by un-openness and the $$$ it eats up. may not be enough cloud pain today
  5. @samj what about patents and trademarks with OVF? seems likely a DMTF version of vCloud will have similar rights granted
  6. @Beaker and what was the consensus? I'd assume real-time updates to a registry would be required to enable cloud brokering
  7. @davegraham you could. the vCloud directory could point to a OAuth endpoint or something else that could use SAML for auth
  8. @davegraham right, and you'd also need cost, performance and SLA info on what the vCloud provider is offering. all missing today
  9. @davegraham my idea: VMware could host a UDDI or similar public registry of vCloud providers. Good meeting you at VMworld, btw
  10. a vCloud issue I'd like to see addressed is discovery: with hundreds of vCloud providers, how does a tool like #RightScale work?
  11. @randybias you could say the same of OVF. seems like the current 0.8 API draft was rushed for VMworld, but they do want to improve it.
  12. @randybias great post on vCloud ( http://is.gd/32ucK ) I'm curious what specific "serious warts" you see with the vCloud API?
  13. I'm going to be in SFO next week at VMworld with my employer, SunGard. I'll be around the vCloud area. Stop by and say hi if you're around.
  14. I hate these unsubscribe forms that make you log in, uncheck a dozen boxes, then double check that you really really want to unsubscribe
  15. Amazon's VPC is very cool. I wonder what in their network setup prevented internet access to VPC instances in this release. Thoughts?
  16. @randybias exactly, you could get it for a great price : )
  17. @randybias you guys should offer to buy the business unit from Oracle.
  18. VMWare vSphere 4 now supports clusters of up to 32 physical servers... that's up from... wait for it... 32 in ESX 3.5 http://is.gd/tN8j
  19. Getting ready to do panel discussion on Enterprise Cloud Adoption for Cloud Slam 09: http://is.gd/tvh1
  20. @samj http://is.gd/pUjm with just 2 members in the CCA google group, I doubt anything too sinister is happening just yet.
