  1. Building smarts in visio feels like working in excel: wonderfully powerful but inexorably messy to maintain.
  2. Writing a couple of smart custom shapes to extend the (manufacturing-only) Value Stream Map stencils provided by Visio.
  3. @Raffaeu good man. LOL I hope you read it too ;-). You'll need Eric Evan's too
  4. @DublinAltNet yep, I'll be there.
  5. It is sad to see developers writing largely un-maintainable code, while pristine copies of that book lie in organization's bookshelves
  6. re-reading first chapter of Refactoring for tonight's dublinalt.net book study group. Content is still relevant after many years.
  7. @lowendahl 3rd week in Jan I think. I Norway. I haven't booked yet, but hopefully I'll be there. Sorry I got to go..ttyl
  8. @FransBouma @lowendahl well, then you use a state pattern then perhaps? Sorry I gotta go! I hope to see you at SAW :D
  9. @FransBouma @lowendahl In that case I would use "replace conditional with polimorfism" refactoring
  10. @FransBouma @lowendahl I agree with Patrick. Gold customer is a type of customer. Otherwise manager contains switches
  11. @FransBouma @lowendahl I prefer "fragmented code" ;-). Every class has some piece of responsibilities, much reuse and OO full on :D
  12. @FransBouma @lowendahl I think the way Frans think about it, it may be a domain service (if stateless, does not fit an object)?
  13. @FransBouma @lowendahl A manager may lead to anemic model, rather than transaction script
  14. Waste on a value stream from the customer point of view: easy to define, hard to identify, tough to gain acceptance and remove
  15. Today I'll publish (internally, i'm afraid) the enterprise architecture: a view of how apps/infrastructure support business process
  16. I only have 2 days left in this contract. In hindsight, (Lean driven) process improvement has been amazing. So much more is left to do
  17. I read Refactoring many years ago. I can't imagine a better classic to "get" OO, so I'm glad people voted to discuss it.
  18. At the dublinalt.net study group spin-off, next month we will go through @martinfowler Refactoring book. New plants for Cindy's garden
  19. I enjoyed the dublinalt.net meetup last night (about Open Rasta). A group of us ended up rediscussing DDD too.
  20. @RoyOsherove and, as often happens, most of the complexity is accidental, built over years of hacking things together.
