  1. @denmojo Thank you for using Tarsnap! (At least, I'm assuming you're using it...)
  2. @sevanjaniyan A few from 6.x -- I think about 20? This is why I said the rest were *mostly* 7.1 and 7.0. ;-)
  3. Roughly 850 upgraded from 7.2-RELEASE, 400/100/100 from 8.0-RC3/2/1, and the rest mostly from 7.1-RELEASE and 7.0-RELEASE.
  4. Approximately 1600 systems upgraded to FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE so far using freebsd-update.
  5. FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE is now officially out: http://bit.ly/7g8vgq - Don't forget to back up before upgrading: http://tarsnap.com
  6. "That guy Colin Percival, the security dude from FreeBSD, magicked up some wicked backup stuff" <- how a #tarsnap user heard about it
  7. @jamesoff Quite true. Also, I don't think like a business guy -- I'd much prefer to have happier users than more money.
  8. I work hard to make #tarsnap as efficient as possible, thereby minimizing what people pay me. #suboptimalbusinessstrategy?
  9. @jeffbarr You're 45 days late ;-)
  10. @zuwiki Depending on how much data you have, Tarsnap's $0.30/GB might be cheaper
  11. @ipguru good to hear that you're happy with #tarsnap, though :-)
  12. @ipguru File synchronization (via rsync or otherwise) is not backup! It will happily sychronize data loss for you...
  13. @grahl Thanks for the plug!
  14. FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE torrents are available; please start seeding. http://torrents.freebsd.org...
  15. @farrokhi Not a joke -- the official announcement is waiting for FTP mirrors to catch up, but the 8.0-RELEASE bits are on freebsd-update.
  16. Don't forget to back up your systems before upgrading to FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE -> http://www.tarsnap.com/
  17. For detailed upgrading instructions, see http://bit.ly/18yGYu and replace "8.0-BETA1" with "8.0-RELEASE" where obvious.
  18. freebsd-update -r 8.0-RELEASE upgrade; freebsd-update install; reboot; freebsd-update install; reboot; now running FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE!
  19. @jblunck It's not ideal, but you can run Tarsnap via Cygwin.
  20. @gldisater Yeah, I'm planning on talking to him; but I wanted to get some sense of whether the twitterverse liked the idea first.
