  1. Someone needs to write a Subversion Cookbook. The O’Reilly book is not very useful. It has too many explanations, too few examples.
  2. @nparmalee Request from your "daughter" was very suspicious. How do you know it was her and not someone trying to steal her identity?
  3. Months ago I defended the selection of Roland Burris as U.S. Senator from Illinois. He disappointed me.
  4. Learning about quantum entanglement from Brian Greene’s book “The Fabric of the Cosmos.” We live in a mysterious universe.
  5. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference is not a civil rights group if it doesn’t support same sex marriage. Equal rights for everyone!
  6. Trying to extract EMBOSS needle alignment data using BioPerl. Documentation is incorrect, and parser truncates sequence names. Need to fix.
  7. The people on my team are really smart and competent. The best thing I can do as a manager is remove obstacles and keep out of their way.
  8. Thought I would go to the O’Reilly OSCON this year, because I'm in Portland every 4 to 6 weeks. But this year it’s in San Jose. Damn!
  9. What I learned today: Globular clusters in the Milky Way are the cores of other galaxies that have been gravitationally stripped.
  10. @rosenz Try “Based on a True Story” by Fat Freddys Drop.
  11. Despite incomplete directions at http://perl.apache.org/, I managed to get mod_perl2 working with Apache, ActiveState ActivePerl, WinXP.
  12. Sarah Palin can’t govern in one of the reddest of states, so she’s quitting. How does this qualify her to be president of the U.S.?
  13. @nparmalee Unfortunately, VCs think they’re smarter than everyone, because they have the money.
  14. @dakami According to Wikipedia, Newark stands for “New Ark” or “New Work.” Founded by Puritans with strict church rules.
  15. Congratulations to Senator Franken. Finally.
  16. Once a year, I give my niece, a mol. biol. major at U. Maine, a tour of the labs where I work. This year she understood everything I said.
  17. Finally, 28 years after it was first published, I own a copy of Wil Tirion’s beautiful Sky Atlas 2000.0 Deluxe. A dream fulfilled.
  18. Set up a Facebook account this weekend and found all my running friends there. Facebook is cutting into my Twitter time.
  19. Pleased to learn that ISMB will be held in Boston in 2010. Last one I could attend was in Detroit in 2005.
  20. Enjoying “From Nowhere to Eternity,” by Trio @therhythmisodd. Driving rock with unusual time signatures, best played LOUD.
