  1. My physics teacher was right; I should've paid attention during class. I imagine this roller coaster simulation would've been done days ago.
  2. @irasocol I agree with your son. I have 2 blog posts. Spirograph: http://tinyurl.com/oxtt4e Animation: http://tinyurl.com/kstewm
  3. @weemooseus Thanks for the programming ideas. What about python? Does that run on all platforms?
  4. @paulhami I think it would change the game for many students. My hs students used trig to program animation this yr. Interest soared.
  5. @WillyB @bengrey Have a great time this week. I attended the first CMK and thought it was fantastic. Please keep sharing.
  6. @WillyB I integrate programming into math classes (Alg2/precalc). However, it's not the same as teaching the subject. Sep. courses needed.
  7. @irasocol I've been advocating algebra via programming for a while. I'm piloting a course like that at my math center this year.
  8. @irasocol Been doing math professionally for 15+ yrs. My understanding of concepts has deepened since beginning to program 4 yrs ago.
  9. @irasocol There are many programming languages but key conceps such as variables, loops, functions and data structures are common to all.
  10. @bengrey Doesn't that make it closer to reading/writing than carpentry? Also, math would be more meaningful if students knew programming.
  11. @bengrey Programming in school means students (and future adults) will be more self sufficient in an area that pervades their lives.
  12. I predict that math education will soon change in unexpected ways and that we'll all have @MariaDroujkova to thank. Really.
  13. Using piecewise functions to model a roller coaster. Wait till my AlgII/precalc kids see this. They'll never complain about them again.
  14. @samjshah Must have been from the back of your head, huh? You're a brave one!
  15. @sumidiot I was just about to tweet that... :-)
  16. @Digimom Tagging does make more sense. I just searched for math groups on Diigo and there are quite a lot already. Why make another?
  17. @samjshah Sounds like fun. What's on the menu?
  18. @courosa Enjoy the show. I would love to see him perform with the Pixies. Used to go to their early Boston shows. Incredible band.
  19. .@mariadroujkova You did an amazing job tonight! You really have people thinking deeply about social math objects. I know I am.
  20. @mackrellr re: Big Q - I'd say no. Physical manipulatives support discovery and innovation. Today's virtual ones are often too restrictive.
