  1. Friends, I return from New Zealand with many stories. Most of the stories are about not having to remove your shoes to board a plane.
  2. I'd very much like to collect field recordings all around LAX, but I foresee trouble with the TSA. Maybe it's worth it.
  3. Perhaps the prime advantage of curiosity: the ability to take advantage of more opportunities, because you've got more potential enthusiasm.
  4. Have decided to do 100% of my thinking in writing. Everything's more surprising when it interacts with the physical world.
  5. Now that @RyuichiSakamoto is on Twitter, life is complete. So should I just walk into the sea, then, or... ?
  6. How many years do we have until 'How do I get rid of those black bars on the screen?' jokes don't make sense?
  7. Wise words from @David_Lynch: "Fear is like a tourniquet on the big tube of creative flow." Wise, slightly icky words. "Big tube."
  8. Increasingly feeling that the only way forward is to watch every single experimental film archived on Ubuweb: http://www.ubu.com/film
  9. On Twitter, @RobinRimbaud (a.k.a. Scanner) is "a global travelling explorer of sound and image." Where can I sign up too?
  10. Know the part of your brain that tells you what you're doing is stupid? That's your most dangerous, most powerful enemy.
  11. My new MOI conversation with documentarian-of-documentarians Pepita Ferrari, director of "Capturing Reality": http://bit.ly/2m51eh
  12. @ThatNeilGuy Yep, I'm transtioning to a more-bleeps-than-words format.
  13. Remembered that the director I was thinking of is Hal Hartley. No thanks to you, hive mind. Or to Metafilter: http://bit.ly/nximb
  14. Los Angeles, America, the internet: three things people hate if they can't properly filter.
  15. Discovered the source of my procrastination: the earlier I start on things, the longer they take.
  16. Help me remember a director: Indie. Active mostly in 90s. "Like Whit Stillman." Married to a Japanese girl. Beard? Maybe named "Jonathan"?
  17. All the precious 'thoughts,' 'plans' and 'ideas' to which we cling are, combined, worth maybe one-seventh of an action. If they're awesome.
  18. When you're overjoyed by every little technical snag that impedes further progress... you might be in the wrong line of work.
  19. Don't act because you're "sure it will turn out well"; act because it will evolve toward, grow into or inspire something good.
  20. Actions don't just speak louder than words; they also beat down your baroque, desperately unempirical fantasies of frustration and failure.
