  8. One solution is to protect critical areas but also set aside special areas dedicated to serving the needs of fishers (extractive reserves).
  9. Fishing in SoCal is important, but most SoCal residents don't fish and will benefit from marine reserves. MPAs will not cause economic ruin.
  10. @jimmoriarty In another study,1000 people surveyed at Zuma in '08 ranked enjoying nature 2nd (4.2/5) to relaxing, fishing was last (1.2/5).

  12. SMBRC releases our report on coastal visits. We do include fishing from private boats; we don't count visits not related to the outdoors.
  13. Just got back from a few days Down East. Lobster is selling for $3.95/lb, clams for a buck. How can these guys make a living?
  14. 40+% of 3000 southern Californians we interviewed looked for marine animals at least once/year. 14% went tidepooling. Less than 10% fished.
