  1. My BRIGHT STAR review: http://u.nu/2vzc4
  2. PS Make sure you don't miss BRIGHT STAR and THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG!
  3. That's it for 2009. Check out my final post (http://wp.me/pcrRN-S2) for what I'm up to next month and I'll see you in 2010.
  4. @JessLomas My issue is more to do with the stylised cinematography, editing and the way Anderson gets his actors to deliver their lines.
  5. @JessLomas Sort of. Maybe too aware of its droll cleverness. There is much to enjoy but I felt like I was kept at arms length the whole time
  6. Saw THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG on the weekend and loved it. Felt like the kind of old-school Disney films I enjoyed as a kid.
  7. I always want to like Wes Anderson films more than I do. FANTASTIC MR FOX is really good but it lacks a bit soul. Too self conscious?
  8. @Annabel22 Danny the Champion of the World was actually made as a TV movie in 1989 starring Jeremy Irons. No idea what it is like.
  9. Is that the time already? I've got to go and see FANTASTIC MR FOX!
  10. @MelbWritersFest PS Never ever trust a trailer. They are often highly misleading and frequently have little to do with the actual film.
  11. @MelbWritersFest I think it's all about context - once you are in the world of the film the SFX get to shine.
  12. Fantastic! John Clarke is on Twitter: @mrjohnclarke Follow, follow, follow!
  13. @JessLomas Ha ha. Glad to oblige. I also resisted the temptation to say something like "Cameron terminates his critics/doubters"
  14. @jezzbell No, it's not just you and I think a few people are thinking it. In fact, I may have inadvertently stolen that line from a mate.
  15. AVATAR could be called “Pocahontas in Space” but it's still ground-breaking cinema. My review: http://wp.me/pcrRN-RK
  16. Thanks everybody! It sounds like SERAPHINE, A CHRISTMAS TALE and DOGTOOTH are all films I need to check out before the year is done.
  17. @Annabel22 @MelbWritersFest Oh, you certainly need to see AVATAR and on the big screen. We're talking ground-breaking cinema here!
  18. @MelbWritersFest My AVATAR review is coming! My need to pause for dinner but it will go up tonight.
  19. @stalepopcornau They are left over from bits of reporting that I did on various film festivals this year, mainly on THE CASTING COUCH.
  20. @stalepopcornau Thanks. I do feel I need to see SERAPHINE. I've heard mixed things about DOGTOOTH so should give it a go.
