  1. "It's a little problematic because the text is terrible... and it's in English." #overheardinmyapartment
  2. @ArmandoBayolo @adrian_knight_ It was a compliment!
  3. "Curling is the Feldman of sports." @adrian_knight_
  4. The real question is whether there's more plaid or green prospect park today
  5. @jeffgavett Lolita is possibly less pretentious. I kind of think of Nabakov as our great sociopath writer
  6. @ICEfansArleneLD Thanks! Hope you enjoyed the whistling!
  7. Note to self: Stop.
  8. @dargel Maybe it would help if you called them lehrstücke?
  9. @jeremydenk I am however in all seriousness enormously flattered that you're even interested in what I think.
  10. @jeremydenk Whereas the structural elements are laid threadbare in the etudes. So for me, I get less out of it.
  11. @jeremydenk I often find this with Ligeti, but his fantastic timbral imagination saves it for me in the orchestral work chamber works
  12. @jeremydenk Whereas I find with Ligeti that forms always feel superimposed. Once you 'get it,' the returns are diminishing
  13. @jeremydenk Also, I think Debussy's genius is his connection between harmony and form. In that regard, he's a very classical composer
  14. @jeremydenk @linernotesdanny @MarcosBalter If we ever meet I will be happy to explain—sans 140 char lims—my reservations re: ligeti
  15. @robertshonstein Let's just say I'd have some tumultuous supreme court nomination hearings...
  16. @linernotesdanny @jeremydenk @MarcosBalter @timoandres I know myself well enough to know now is a good time for me to stop on this issue
  17. @MarcosBalter And maybe they miss Ligeti's usually gamechanging timbral voice? Anyway, sorry to rant. And of course it's all prerogative.
  18. @MarcosBalter Also, formally, they're very uninteresting to me because the super teleological structures aren't tied to anything musical...
  19. @MarcosBalter They feel like virtuosity for virtuosity's sake. If there's a musical end I can't hear it.
  20. I still sort of despise Ligeti Etudes, but already vastly prefer Jeremy Denk's new recording.
