  1. @Abnerg For the third time, HP returns to the security market and strengthens its networking business. The Hauwei connection bears watching.
  2. Overall, good move for HP in security. Expect to see more M&A. HP emerging as potent competition to Cisco, Juniper, McAfee, Check Point.
  3. Finally, HP partners with McAfee. It acquired Secure Computing and now offers network security that competes with HP/3Com Tipping Point.
  4. Incidentally, Huawei also partners with Symantec in China and AP. However, Symantec is largely out of the network security business.
  5. HP emphasized 3Com's success in China and Latin America. Would not go into details on relationship with Huawei, but this will be important.
  6. This HP's third resurrection of the security business. By focusing on networking security, it will probably be successful this time.
  7. HP said it will acquire more security technology so I expect acquisitions in messaging, web, DLP, and vulnerability management.
  8. HP say its security products now cover Edge Firewall, data Center, Threat Management, and Intrusion Prevention.
  9. With HP's acquisition of 3Com, it is back in the security business via 3Com's Tipping Poin. HP security products now include IPS & FW.
  10. Fortniet going IPO. Solid company, products, and management. Wonder if Kaspersky will IPO on the London Exchange in near future? Sophos?
  11. Cloud security should focus on security as an enabler of trusted cloud services, not as an obstruction built on FUD and breaches.
  12. @BillinBoston Sorry to hear the news. Can I help?
  13. Other private & public clouds issues: encryption, virtualization security, administrative privileges, delegated administration, & APIs.
  14. Keep conventional, CPE (Customer Premise Equipement) approach for centralized headquarters and other critical sites.
  15. Cloud customers reduce risk with hybrid: SaaS for coarse web and messaging filtering and SaaS for distributed sites & remote workers.
  16. Many customers trade off TCO savings for ability to revert to previous state (non-cloud) or rapidly switch SPs.
  17. Other issues: SP not up to date on patches, security provisions hard to build into contracts (but possible), & minimal data protection.
  18. Spoke at IDC Cloud Forum last week. Customer issues: many service providers only allow one account and password per customer account.
  19. Cloud Security. Thinking that it is a mix of SaaS, MSSP, Security Products, and Virtualization Security.
  20. Once again, biometrics seen as password replacement .There are many authentication methods that are better than biometrics.
