  1. Democrats rolled into Denver in a wave of self-proclaimed change.
  2. Protesters at the Democratic National Convention did not.
  3. The Western town’s streets rumbled with energy and optimism, but the protestors’ philosophy echoed anything but alteration.
  4. . Protesters employed their typical tactics.
  5. The anti-abortion crowd added to the pleasant ambiance with larger-than-life size photos of aborted fetuses.
  6. They were the same pictures that have graced rallies, campuses and left-wing events for years.
  7. Walking up to a poster of a baby’s bloody, decapitated head, most passersbys failed to even give the demonstration a second glance.
  8. The other usual suspects, the anti-gay rights groups, also made an appearance.
  9. The most attention they received was from the police.
  10. Monday evening, shut off from streets and amongst better-dressed crowds, delegates and the press listened to politicians hail the future.
  11. But these speeches maintained a common theme: the past.
  12. Almost every one spoke of times when the country was suffering an energy crisis or a faltering economy
  13. – then followed it with a “Does this sound familiar?” comment. Well, yes.
  14. But I’ve already taken a history lesson.
  15. Later that evening, many people close to the party – political hacks – talked wildly about each speech.
  16. Many others, such as cab drivers or bartenders, were far from impressed.
  17. After choosing an East Coast, upper-class, anything-but-everyday man as the vice-presidential candidate,
  18. the Obama campaign is spending a lot of time convincing voters that Barak and Joe are just like them.
  19. This started with Michelle’s speech and will only gain momentum throughout the week.
  20. We’ll have to see how voters, especially the lower-to middle-class sect respond this push.
