  2. During late spring to early summer, keep an eye out for wasps in your cotton canvas tent likely trying to build a nest. Destroy them asap.
  3. @rlford Keep lp gas valve closed, upright, strapped securely and preferably outside of your vehicle (i.e in trailer) during transit.
  4. Buy the biggest gas bottle that you can realistically carry to save money longterm.
  5. Bring a towel with you to wipe down the underside of your groundsheet and get any droplets off the flysheet before packing.
  6. Use long wooden pegs for sandy ground.
  7. Soak your wooden mallet in water and then let it dry slowly outside to make it tougher.
  8. Remember if you need to apply seam sealer it has to be applied on the outside of the tent so it stops water getting into the seam.
  9. Get yourself a cheap tarp to put under your tent, better than an overpriced footprint or stone protection sheet.
  10. If you want to wash your tents canvas, use only warm water or a weak water and pure soap mix. Never ever detergent.
  11. The first time you put up your frame tent use coloured tape to code the poles for an easier time working out what goes where next time.
  12. If you get snow on your tent, regularly knock it off from the inside, because the weight could break the tent.
  13. Pegs should go into the ground at a 45 degree angle away from the tent.
  14. Zip in ground sheets provide the most versatility. So many campsites now ask for breathables, so you need to be able to remove it.
  15. Peg out the corners first ensuring the sides of the tent are pulled taught, then fill in the gaps down the sides.
  16. If your ferrel gets clogged up with mud or grit, simply whack it with a peg a few times and it will all fall out.
  17. Check that no bags, luggage or whatever else are resting against the fabric of the tent, especially if you expect some wet weather.
  18. Camp in a spot that will get plenty of shade during midday if you can to limit your tent's exposure to UV.
  19. Rain deteriorating a tent's water proofing is a myth. UV is the killer.
  20. Tent carpets help to insulate the inside and also make for a more homely feel, great for sitting and playing without furniture.
