  1. strange: after 2(?) recent rounds of RIFs from Microsoft, I've seen at least 3 new job posting from them today. (via twitter stream)
  2. I thought I had Mono once. Turns out, that my code was just rly bored. #geekHumor #neverheardthat1b4
  3. golden. rt @mkoby @CalebJenkins so I can spend some time working on learning a language or just use mono to deploy .NET
  4. @subdigital "paid" support is a trade off for man hours. The real costs are in uptime, sec, etc then the paid support should rly b a savings
  5. ha! I love that @AmazonEC2 just injected itself in the middle of a twitter conversation about the cost of computing. cool and helpful :)
  6. @mkoby but I'm certain the real costs of any stack rly surface after the initial price. In the form of maintenance, support, management etc.
  7. @mkoby even when looking at support "cost" I still think it's a question of "value". (for any platform) I'm not an infrastructure guy...
  8. @subdigital agreed. (major props to Mono) I've never deployed to linux. I wonder what some of the "hidden" costs are, depends on the distro?
  9. @gblock I'm certain that "the best" c# devs in the world are still learning from Ruby/Java/F#/Boo *cough* Go ... maybe not Go. ;-)
  10. @gblock probably - except that their's prob 10+ yrs of lessons learned to bring in to a 2 yr old platform. #alwaysLearning
  11. @hkarthik @nkohari @subdigital @mkoby I'm rly looking forward to a good EC2 vs AppEngine vs RackSpace vs Azure breakdown.
  12. @hkarthik @nkohari @subdigital @mkoby the MS stack ultimately comes down to a value vs cost discussion. Also: seems to favor scaling up. :/
  13. @subdigital fold and do another startup. ;-) srsly - it's a running start to get things going.
  14. @nkohari I hear ya. we just re-upped our EA. yikes. (still value vs cost) I love programs like BizSpark level'ish the playing field
  15. @gblock re-learning everything that he/she ever did in flash. #justsayin
  16. @mkoby @hkarthik totally. BizSpark FTW.
  17. @subdigital @hkarthik rly think that it's the lic costs? What's the lic cost for os+software compared to hardware costs?
  18. @mkoby I find most neg rep re: windows - is from ppl who experienced win circa 1990's.. not so much based on reality of where things r today
  19. @subdigital @mkoby lack of updates != more stable/secure. re:reboots on servers. Isnt that y we have load balancers and other HA solutions?
